Our approach to CSR
PPL has always laid great emphasis on its social responsibilities, not only to the well-being of its stakeholders but also to the larger communities in its plant periphery locations. PPL’s CSR approach is benchmarked against the global best practices and the guidelines issued under the New Companies Act 2013. Our CSR policy contributes to the development goals by adopting projects in the areas of intervention defined in Schedule VII of Section 135 of New Companies Act 2013.
We identify and prioritise social and environmental issues by engaging internally as well as externally with a broad set of stakeholders. We are grateful for our stakeholders’ contributions, their encouragement, ideas and constructive feedback to help us improve. With an underlying emphasis on inclusiveness, a pro-active strategy that enables participation of key stakeholders and a long term vision of transformation –PPL works in a time intensive, process driven manner. PPL aims to establish a vital link between its CSR projects and three key parameters of Relevance, Effectiveness and Sustainability.
Target Population, Geography, and Interventions
The company is committed towards improving the quality of life in the communities around and become a catalyst in the socio-economic change process, through targeted interventions that supplement state efforts in different sectors. Every year PPL’s CSR initiatives reach out to benefit more than 10,000 households (about 50,000 population) in twenty five villages in five Gram Panchayats and two slums in Paradeep Town in district Jagatsinghpur. Through various initiatives, the company prepares less privileged groups and communities with knowledge and the capacity to achieve improved health, education and livelihood.
Employee volunteering is a growing driver of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities at PPL. We encourage our people to contribute to the community in simple and effective ways. Our people have come forward to contribute their time and have generously donated for those in need for support at Old Age Homes, Orphanages, and have also provided support to communities in emergency situations.
